Narrative
On Monday, June 30, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m., police responded to the Budget Inn Motel on Route 1 in Westwood, Massachusetts, after a white SUV struck a utility pole, went airborne, and crashed into the side of the motel before rolling over. The driver, a 32-year-old man from Walpole, was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. His name has not been released.
The crash caused the telephone pole to collapse, scattered debris across the scene, and left a mangled SUV on its side in front of the motel. A witness described the vehicle taking out the pole before going airborne and bouncing off the top of the building. Eversource reported that a handful of customers, including the Budget Inn, lost power as a result of the collision.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by local authorities. Full details are developing.
