Narrative
On Thursday evening, May 7, 2026, at approximately 7:00 p.m., troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Springfield Barracks responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle on Route 5 in the southbound direction near the South End Bridge, which connects Agawam and Springfield.
The rider of the motorcycle sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The crash prompted the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to close the South End Bridge and advise drivers to seek alternative routes.
