Narrative
On Wednesday, June 25, 2026, just before 9:00 p.m., multiple 911 callers reported a vehicle traveling the wrong way eastbound on Interstate 290 in Northborough, Massachusetts. Massachusetts State Troopers responded and discovered that the wrong-way vehicle — a Subaru — had collided head-on with a Jeep near Exit 27, with both vehicles found engulfed in flames and sustaining severe front-end damage.
The driver and sole occupant of the wrong-way Subaru was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and sole occupant of the Jeep was able to exit the vehicle before first responders arrived and was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, including broken bones, lacerations, and mild confusion.
