Narrative
On the morning of Wednesday, May 6, 2026, a Massachusetts State Police trooper assigned to the Danvers barracks was struck by a wrong-way driver while responding to reports of that same wrong-way driver on Route 1 in Lynnfield, Massachusetts. The wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while the trooper was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The crash resulted in two fatalities. Massachusetts State Police Colonel Geoffrey Noble was present at Massachusetts General Hospital following the incident, and Governor Maura Healey issued a statement honoring the fallen trooper, noting he “put himself in harm’s way to protect others.” Neither victim’s name has been publicly released as of the time of this report.
