Narrative
At approximately 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Massachusetts State Police Trooper Kevin Trainor was struck by a wrong-way driver while responding to reports of that same wrong-way vehicle on Route 1 northbound in Lynnfield, MA. The wrong-way driver was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes when the vehicle collided head-on with Trooper Trainor’s cruiser.
Trooper Trainor was transported to a Boston hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead. The wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Two fatalities were reported as a result of this crash.
The crash remains under active investigation, with Route 1 northbound detoured at Walnut Street in Saugus as of Wednesday morning. Full details are developing.
