Narrative
On approximately May 7, 2026, at approximately 2:03 a.m., Massachusetts State Police Trooper Kevin Trainor was struck by a wrong-way driver on Route 1 in Lynnfield, Massachusetts while driving home in his cruiser. A 911 call had been received at approximately 2:00 a.m. reporting a vehicle traveling southbound in a northbound lane, and responding troopers located the wrong-way vehicle at 2:03 a.m. — one minute later, Trooper Trainor’s cruiser was struck.
Both Trooper Trainor and the wrong-way driver, identified as Hernan Marrero of Roslindale, Massachusetts, died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision. No additional occupants or injuries were reported.
