Narrative

On the morning of April 25, 2026, a single-vehicle rollover crash occurred along US-258 in Onslow County, North Carolina, involving 36-year-old Justine Sweeney of Halifax, Massachusetts. Investigators allege that Sweeney was operating the vehicle at a high rate of speed and had admitted to consuming a controlled substance prior to the crash. Officers observed signs of impairment, and Narcan was administered at the scene as a precaution.

Three occupants were injured in the crash. Two suffered serious injuries, including a broken leg and facial fractures with internal injuries involving fluid accumulation in the abdominal area. All injured parties were treated at the scene before being transported for further medical care.

Sweeney was arrested on April 28, 2026, and charged by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol with two counts of felony serious injury by vehicle, driving while impaired, reckless driving, driving left of center, and failure to wear a seat belt. She was booked into the Onslow County Jail and held without bond, with an initial court appearance scheduled for April 29, 2026. Full details are developing.
