Narrative

At approximately 2:35 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026, a multi-vehicle crash occurred on the southbound side of Interstate 95 at mile marker 146 in Stafford County, Virginia, near Quantico. A charter bus traveling from New York City to Charlotte failed to slow for traffic stopped behind a work zone and struck a Chevrolet Suburban, which was then forced into an Acura SUV and additional vehicles, causing the Acura to catch fire.

Five Massachusetts residents were killed in the crash: Dmitri Doncev, 45, Ecaterina Doncev, 44, Emily Doncev, 13, and Mark Doncev, 7, all of Greenfield, were in the vehicle that caught fire; a 25-year-old female from Worcester was in the Suburban struck by the bus. A total of 44 patients were transported to area hospitals, including bus driver Jing S. Dong, 48, of New York.

The Virginia State Police are investigating the crash and charges are pending against the bus driver. Full details are developing.
