A charter bus traveling from New York City to Charlotte failed to slow for traffic stopped behind a work zone and struck a Chevrolet Suburban, which was then forced into an Acura SUV and several other vehicles.

Five Massachusetts residents were killed in the crash: Dmitri Doncev, 45, Ecaterina Doncev, 44, their 13-year-old daughter Emily, and 7-year-old son Mark — all of Greenfield — perished in the Acura SUV, which caught fire.
