Narrative
On Tuesday night, April 22, 2026, just before 10:00 p.m., a serious wrong-way crash occurred on I-495 southbound at the Hunt Road overpass in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. According to Massachusetts State Police, a driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes collided head-on with a vehicle traveling in the correct direction.
The wrong-way driver sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital via medical helicopter. At least one additional victim was also taken to the hospital. MassDOT closed I-495 southbound at exit 88 for several hours as a result of the collision, with two vehicles reported mangled on the highway.
