Narrative
At approximately 3:00 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2026, Massachusetts State Police responded to reports of a vehicle traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-95 in Reading. Before troopers arrived, the vehicle — a black Porsche 911 operated by John Tarshi, 25, of Lawrence — had crashed in the left lane near Exit 54A in Woburn.
No injuries were reported. Only Tarshi’s vehicle was involved. Troopers observed Tarshi had glassy eyes and smelled of alcohol; he was subsequently charged with operating under the influence of liquor. Two passengers were present in the vehicle. Tarshi admitted to being the driver but attributed the crash to bald tires. Prosecutors noted Tarshi has a history of driving infractions and is currently on probation for an unrelated assault and battery case.
Tarshi appeared in court on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, where a judge suspended his license and released him on personal recognizance. Prosecutors have indicated additional charges are expected. Full details are developing.
