Narrative
On Wednesday evening, July 1, 2026, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Raynham and Taunton Police were dispatched to the area of King Phillip Street and Gardiner Street in Raynham, Massachusetts, following reports of a single-vehicle crash. The vehicle was found down a steep slope off the roadway in the woods.
The driver and sole occupant, Maura Whittemore, 54, of Taunton, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Whittemore was the sister of State Representative Lisa Field and had been employed at Bridgewater State University for 23 years.
The investigation is ongoing and being conducted by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, the Raynham Police Department, and the Taunton Police Department. Full details are developing.
