Narrative
On Monday, June 29, 2026, just after 4:00 p.m., a white SUV crashed on Route 1 South in Westwood, Massachusetts, near the Budget Inn Motel. The vehicle struck a utility pole, became airborne, struck the upper sidewall of the motel, and bounced back down to the ground, causing structural damage to the property and knocking out power for several nearby customers.
The driver was trapped in the wreckage and required extraction by first responders. Injuries to the driver are currently unknown, and it is unclear whether any motel guests or bystanders were hurt. The crash caused significant traffic backups along Route 1 South during the evening rush hour.
