Narrative
On June 24, 2026, at approximately 4:33 PM, a fiery crash occurred on the eastbound lanes of the Mass Pike (I-90) in Charlton, Massachusetts, at mile marker 82.1, according to MassDOT. Sky5 aerial footage showed a completely burned-out vehicle being towed from the scene, with crews sweeping and hosing down ashes left on the highway surface. A second vehicle, sustaining visible rear and side bumper damage with less fire damage, was also towed from the scene.
It is unclear if any occupants sustained injuries or fatalities as a result of the crash. Traffic was diverted to the right shoulder of the eastbound lanes during the cleanup, with significant rubbernecking backups reported on both the eastbound and westbound sides of the highway.
All eastbound lanes of the Mass Pike have since reopened. The cause of the fire and full circumstances of the crash remain under investigation. Full details are developing.
