Narrative

On Saturday, June 21, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Boston Police officers responded to the 1600 block of Blue Hill Avenue in Mattapan following reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Ibraim Matos, 37, of Hyde Park, was involved in an initial crash at Woodhaven and Blue Hill Avenue, after which he allegedly carjacked a vehicle from near a car wash — despite workers attempting to stop him — and drove south on Blue Hill Avenue.

Matos then struck and dragged 32-year-old Mabinty “Binty” Janneh, who had just stepped off a bus and was walking on Blue Hill Avenue, at the intersection of Fairway Street and Blue Hill Avenue. Janneh was killed as a result of her injuries. Matos was subsequently restrained by bystanders until police arrived and was transported to a hospital for treatment of his own injuries. The suspect vehicle also struck an MBTA bus during the incident.

Matos was charged with murder, carjacking, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury, and motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation. He was arraigned in Dorchester District Court, held without bail, and ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation at Bridgewater State Hospital, with a return court date of July 10, 2026. Full details are developing.
