Narrative
Shortly after 12:55 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026, Massachusetts State Police troopers attempted to stop a vehicle on the westbound lanes of Interstate 90. The driver initially pulled over but fled when a trooper approached, prompting a pursuit that led to a “be on the lookout” alert for the suspect vehicle.
Troopers located the vehicle traveling south in the northbound lanes of state Route 146 in Millbury. Despite efforts to stop the vehicle — including the deployment of tire-deflation devices — the Connecticut man in his 20s crashed head-on into another vehicle between the on- and off-ramps at Exit 17. The wrong-way driver was fatally injured; the driver of the second vehicle sustained injuries not considered life-threatening. All lanes were reopened at approximately 4:30 a.m. after investigators cleared the scene.
Massachusetts State Police are investigating the incident. Full details are developing.
