Narrative
On Saturday, June 20, 2026, at approximately 12:55 a.m., a Connecticut man in his 20s was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Route 146 in Millbury, Massachusetts, after fleeing a Massachusetts State Police traffic stop on the Massachusetts Turnpike approximately 12 minutes earlier. A BOLO had been issued, and troopers located the vehicle entering Route 146 traveling the wrong way; stop sticks were deployed but failed to prevent the crash. The wrong-way vehicle struck a second vehicle head-on between the on- and off-ramps at Exit 17.
The wrong-way driver died from his injuries; his identity has not been released. The driver of the second vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Route 146 was fully closed while investigators worked the scene, with lanes reopening at approximately 4:30 a.m.
