Narrative
Shortly after midnight on Saturday, June 20, 2026, Massachusetts State Police attempted to stop a vehicle on Interstate 90 westbound at approximately 12:43 a.m. The driver initially pulled over but fled when a trooper approached, prompting police to issue a BOLO for the suspect vehicle. Troopers located the car around 12:55 a.m. traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Route 146 in Millbury, Massachusetts.
Despite attempts to stop the wrong-way vehicle — including the deployment of stop sticks — the driver collided head-on with another vehicle between the on and off-ramps at Exit 17. The wrong-way driver, a Connecticut man in his 20s, was fatally injured; the driver of the second vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The scene drew a large response from Millbury Fire and EMS, Worcester County State Police detectives, collision analysis reconstruction members, and the crime scene services unit. All lanes of Route 146 were reopened at approximately 4:30 a.m. Full details are developing.
