Narrative
At approximately 2:35 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026, a passenger bus traveling southbound on Interstate 95 in Stafford County, Virginia — approximately 45 miles south of Washington, D.C. — failed to slow for a work zone and struck a Chevrolet Suburban, which was then forced into an Acura SUV and several other vehicles. The bus also struck additional cars in the chain-reaction crash.
The Acura SUV caught fire, killing all four of its occupants: a 45-year-old man, a 44-year-old woman, a 13-year-old girl, and a 7-year-old boy, all residents of Greenfield, Massachusetts. A 25-year-old woman in the Suburban was also killed. Forty-four people were transported to area hospitals, with three sustaining critical injuries.
Bus driver Jing S. Dong, 48, was injured; charges are pending. Federal investigators are reviewing Dong’s commercial driver’s license and training records. Full details are developing.
