At approximately 2:35 a.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026, a passenger bus operated by E&P Travel, Inc. failed to slow for traffic that was decelerating ahead of a work zone on southbound Interstate 95 in Stafford County, Virginia, near Quantico, striking six vehicles. The bus driver, identified as Jing S. Dong, 48, of Staten Island, New York, was among those transported to a hospital; charges against the driver are pending.

Five people — all Massachusetts residents — were killed: a family of four from Greenfield (a 45-year-old male, a 44-year-old female, a 13-year-old female, and a 7-year-old male) who were in a car that caught fire upon impact, and a 25-year-old female from Worcester who was in a separate SUV struck by the bus. Forty-four additional individuals were transported to area hospitals, including three in critical condition.

Virginia State Police and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash, with the NTSB deploying a go-team to the scene. Full details are developing.
