Narrative
On Friday, May 29, 2026, at approximately 2:35 a.m., a fatal multi-vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 95 southbound at mile marker 146 in Stafford County, Virginia, near Quantico. A passenger bus traveling from New York City to Charlotte failed to slow for traffic and struck a Chevrolet Suburban, which was then forced into an Acura SUV and additional vehicles; the Acura subsequently caught fire.
Five Massachusetts residents were killed: four occupants of the Acura — a 45-year-old male, a 44-year-old female, a 13-year-old female, and a 7-year-old male, all from Greenfield — and a 25-year-old from Worcester who was in the Suburban. A total of 44 patients were transported to area hospitals, including bus driver Jing S. Dong, 48, of New York.
The crash remains under investigation by the Virginia State Police, and charges are pending against the bus driver. Full details are developing.
