Narrative

On Friday, May 22, 2026, at approximately 8:00 p.m., Lewiston, Maine police were alerted via the Flock Safety license plate recognition system to the presence of a dual-wheeled dump truck stolen from Marlborough, Massachusetts, in downtown Lewiston. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle near the intersection of Bartlett and Walnut Streets, but the truck fled into a nearby building’s rear parking lot and intentionally rammed a police cruiser, totaling it while leaving its driver uninjured. The truck then traveled one block to Longley School, where it crashed into the playground fence, disabling the vehicle and leading to the arrest of all three occupants.

All three suspects — Antonio Moralespijoan, 23, of Marlborough; Angelika Almeida, 20, of Lawrence; and Steven Grossi, 37, of Lowell — face charges related to theft. Moralespijoan additionally faces charges of reckless conduct, aggravated criminal mischief, and leaving the scene of an accident. A Lewiston police officer who pursued the fleeing suspects on foot was injured by the school’s playground fence, sustaining a serious laceration to the back of his head requiring seven staples at the hospital.

The incident remains under investigation by Lewiston police. Full details are developing.
