Narrative
On Thursday evening, May 7, 2026, at approximately 7:00 p.m., troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Springfield Barracks responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a motorcycle on Route 5 southbound near the South End Bridge, which connects Agawam and Springfield, Massachusetts.
The rider of the motorcycle sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment. The crash prompted the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to close the South End Bridge and advise motorists to seek alternative routes. The scene was cleared by approximately 10:00 p.m.
