Narrative
On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at approximately 2:03 a.m., Massachusetts State Police Trooper Kevin Trainor, age 30, was fatally struck by a wrong-way driver operating a Jeep on Route 1 in Lynnfield, MA. Trooper Trainor had responded to a call at 2:01 a.m. reporting the wrong-way vehicle — just one minute before the end of his shift — and was struck two minutes later.
Trooper Trainor was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Jeep was pronounced dead at the scene. Massachusetts State Police Colonel Geoffrey Noble credited Trooper Trainor with preventing a greater tragedy, stating, “His actions saved lives today.”
The crash remains under active investigation by the Massachusetts State Police and the Essex County District Attorney’s Office. The identity and motive of the wrong-way driver have not yet been released. Full details are developing.
