Narrative
On April 28, 2026, 17-year-old Alex Mechachonis was fatally injured when he crashed while riding his dirt bike during practice at MX Twenty-Three, a motocross track located in Brookfield, Massachusetts. Alex was a competitive motocross rider who had been racing since 2022 and had earned three championships in the 2025 NESC Spring series. Witnesses reported that he was properly equipped, wearing his helmet, and that track conditions were normal with no outside contributing factors identified at the time.
Alex Mechachonis sustained fatal injuries in the single-vehicle crash and was the sole occupant of the dirt bike. He was 17 years old and would have turned 18 later in 2026.
The Massachusetts Environmental Police confirmed they are investigating the incident as a fatal ATV accident. The Brookfield Police Department also confirmed the teen’s death. Full details are developing.
The tragic loss of a young life in a recreational vehicle accident can raise serious questions about premises liability, track safety, and wrongful death. Alex’s death is reported to be at least the third fatality at MX Twenty-Three in the past decade, and advocates are already calling for new state legislation to improve track safety standards.
