Narrative
On Thursday, July 16, 2026, just after 3:30 p.m., a serious crash occurred on Interstate 95 northbound in Newbury, Massachusetts, involving a black SUV and a tractor-trailer. The driver of the SUV sustained serious injuries and required extrication from the vehicle before being airlifted by medical helicopter to a Boston-area hospital.
The SUV sustained extensive front-end damage, and crash debris was scattered across the roadway. It remains unclear whether the tractor-trailer driver was also injured. All lanes of I-95 northbound were temporarily closed during the medical flight operation, and the ramp from Central Street to I-95 remained closed as of the time of reporting.
Police are actively investigating the cause of the crash, and one lane of I-95 northbound has since reopened. Full details are developing.
