Narrative

On the night of Tuesday, July 15, 2026, at approximately 10:20 p.m., Massachusetts State Police received multiple 911 calls reporting a wrong-way driver traveling westbound on Interstate 290 in Northboro, MA. The wrong-way vehicle caused at least two drivers to swerve to avoid a head-on collision, with both vehicles striking the guardrail. A group of teenagers in a separate vehicle also reported narrowly avoiding the wrong-way driver near an on-ramp at Exit 27.

One driver sustained injuries in the crash but is expected to recover. At least two vehicles were significantly damaged and towed to a West Boylston tow yard. The wrong-way driver fled the scene and had not been located as of the time of reporting. This incident follows a pattern of wrong-way crashes on the same stretch of I-290, including a fatal fiery crash just three weeks prior.

Massachusetts State Police are actively searching for the unidentified wrong-way driver, and the investigation remains ongoing. Full details are developing.
